About the therapies I offer:
• Family Therapy ( sometimes called Systemic Psychotherapy) is a well established form of therapy that helps people in close relationship help each other. It enables family members, couples and others who care about each other to express and explore thoughts and emotions safely, to understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on strengths and make useful changes in their relationships and their lives. Individuals also can find Family Therapy helpful, as an opportunity to reflect upon and strengthen important relationships.
Family therapy is a tried and tested therapy with the backing of research evidence. When used with children and young people it has proved particularly successful in helping with conduct problems, depression, deliberate self harm, eating problems and conflict in relationships. It can also be very helpful in adult couples where one or both partners are experiencing depression.
• EMDR is a relatively new form of psychotherapy. It is an extremely effective treatment for people -children as well as adults -who have had traumatic experiences. It is also helpful for a variety of emotional and behaviour problems in adults and children. There is a wealth of information on the internet about current research into EMDR (Further information is available on the EMDR Association of UK and Ireland website at www.emdr-uki.org )
